Geovany Quenda caused a lot of excitement among Chelsea fans during pre-season.

His playing style can really get you off your seat, and that was the case in Chelsea’s pre-season tour. Be it from the winger or wing-back position, Quenda had no trouble beating defenders.

Unfortunately for those Blues supporters who really enjoyed watching him in Australia and Asia, he has barely played this campaign. Quenda has made just two appearances, totalling 27 minutes.

Quenda was recently asked about his lack of game time, and in response he said: “There’s nothing I can do about what I can’t control, but I always give my best to try and play, and obviously there are great players at the club. And those are the manager’s decisions; I just have to keep giving my all.”

Chelsea needed this break BADLY… but with so many players racking up minutes for their countries, did it actually help them or could it have made things worse? 🤔

A catch 22. Alonso had seen the talent that he'd been left with after the deadline. Had he been left with those he wanted. When was the last time we had a settled defence, be it back 3, or 4 or even a 5. Profit has come before stability. Hopefully now Stewart has gone things may change. If not they'll stay the way they are

Some games, I think it’s pointless. At home against low blocks, I’d rather see Estevao in a four-man attack than an extra centre-back in a five-man defence.

Yes for a reset , for recovery also because the season is a long one

No one would disagree with Quenda. Chelsea indeed have some great players, making it difficult for him to get into their team, and there is nothing he can do about the decisions Xabi Alonso does or does not make.

With that in mind, the Blues have to send Quenda out on loan in January. He is not going to become a starter this season but has too much talent to be wasting away on the bench.

Quenda is quite versatile. He can play as a left winger or right winger but also as a wing-back. Unfortunately for the Portuguese attacker, Chelsea have those positions covered pretty well.

On the right, they have Cole Palmer and Estevao Willian. On the opposite flank, £117m Morgan Rogers is always going to play.

In the right wing-back position, Alonso has Pedro Neto, Malo Gusto, Marco Palestra and Reece James. Simply put, there are too many players ahead of Quenda right now.

For the time being, Quenda’s people are remaining calm, confident that the Portugal Under-21 international will eventually get an opportunity. It is hard to imagine that happening, though, because of the above.

All things considered, it was a bit of a surprise that Chelsea decided to integrate Quenda into their first-team squad in the summer instead of sending him out on loan. What they do in January will now be interesting to see.
