Chelsea and Manchester United are preparing to move for Barcelona playmaker Dani Olmo in 2027, according to journalist Ekrem Konur. Both clubs have endured disappointing starts to the Premier League campaign despite heavy summer spending, and may look to reshape their squads again next year.
Barcelona Demand £76m for Olmo
Konur claims the Catalan giants value the 28-year-old at £76 million. Olmo is contracted until June 2030, so Barcelona face no pressure to sell and can afford to hold out for their asking price.
The former RB Leipzig man has become a key figure under Hansi Flick and also performs regularly for Spain. Arsenal, Bayern Munich, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly monitoring his situation too.
Why Chelsea Hold the Edge Over United
Several rivals look less likely to pursue him seriously. Arsenal and Liverpool already have capable number 10s, while Tottenham’s recent form makes them a difficult sell. Bayern appear the biggest threat, offering a winning project, though Premier League clubs can usually outbid them financially.
Chelsea arguably have the stronger case. Following Enzo Fernandez’s departure, there is space at number 10 or in a deeper midfield role. United, meanwhile, still have Bruno Fernandes.
Alonso Factor and Champions League Hopes
A move to Stamford Bridge would reunite Olmo with compatriot Xabi Alonso, who has a strong record of developing attacking midfielders such as Arda Guler and Florian Wirtz.
However, Chelsea will probably need Champions League qualification to be taken seriously, so their results over the coming months could shape the entire negotiation.
In my opinion, Olmo’s knack for finding space and timing late runs would suit Chelsea’s system better than United’s, although Bayern’s pull should not be underestimated. If Barcelona stay firm on price, this could become a lengthy saga.
