Liverpool have seen a host of players depart the club in recent years and go on to enjoy themselves elsewhere.
Trent Alexander-Arnold made the move to Real Madrid in 2025 and was joined by Ibrahima Konate 12 months later, while Curtis Jones has moved to Inter Milan, Andy Robertson has joined Tottenham, Luis Diaz made the move to Bayern Munich, Darwin Nunez moved to Saudi Arabia, and Caoimhin Kelleher is now first-choice goalkeeper at Brentford.
The Reds have brought in a number of players since to fill the positions, but the squad is weaker and thinner than it has been in a long time, and that has seen Andoni Iraola start to take a look at how he can strengthen.
A number of positions are expected to be targeted in 2027, with a new central midfielder, new defenders, and potentially a new forward all being eyed as options for the Spanish manager.
But it has now emerged that the club have made their move behind the scenes over a deal to try and re-sign former defender Jarell Quansah, who they sold in 2025 to German giants Bayer Leverkusen.
According to Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg, there is already movement happening between clubs over a potential 2027 transfer for the defender, and it's now believed that he could leave Leverkusen next summer.
Chelsea and Arsenal are also showing an interest in the 23-year-old, who can play at centre-back or at right-back, while Real Madrid are understood to have been regularly scouting him too.
But Liverpool have a major advantage in the race for his signature, as they currently hold a buy-back option from their deal with Leverkusen in 2025, which means they can sign him for €70m (£59.2m), with the clause valid until June 15th, 2027.

Quansah Would Be Perfect Addition for Iraola

Quansah came through the academy at Liverpool, but wanted to play more regularly and pushed for a move away. Since doing that, he has become a regular in the Bundesliga, and has earned himself a spot in Thomas Tuchel's England squad regularly.
Liverpool already have Jeremy Jacquet as a young defender in their squad who has a huge future, but with Virgil Van Dijk turning 36 at the end of this season and being out of contract, the club need to begin to plan for the future without him.
Van Dijk himself knows Quansah well, and has praised him in the past, too, saying:
Quansah knows the club, has experience at the highest level, and would be available for a price that doesn't need negotiating. It's also fair to assume that he would prefer a return to Anfield rather than move to Stamford Bridge or the Emirates Stadium.
A deal is there to be done, the player would surely give the green light, and it would solve a major problem in a problem position. This feels like a no-brainer for Liverpool to push through in 2027.
