David Silva was one of the few players who was not a FC Barcelona or Real Madrid player, but played a significant role in helping Spain win their first World Cup back in 2010. The Canary Islander played for other notable clubs during his career, including Valencia, Manchester City, and Real Sociedad, before hanging up his boots three years ago.
As one of the most notable players of his generation, his words carry a lot of weight, and as [Mundo Deportivo](https://www.mundodeportivo.com/futbol/balon-oro/20261008/1004236024/david-silva-da-nombre-balon-oro-advierte-real-madrid.html) has reported, he commented on the current La Liga race as he recently appeared in an interview on the program El Partidazo on COPE.
The Spaniard praised Barcelona and was clear that if the Blaugranes continued with the form they have showed early in this season, it would be impossible to catch them:
**“If Barça continue like this, it’s impossible. They are playing at a very high level and have already been playing very well for several years under this coach (Flick), and they have strengthened very well. If they maintain this level, they will have no rivals.”**
Still, he warned the Catalans that their main rivals, Real Madrid, can also not be written off:
**“You can never write them off because they have great players, and if they stay close until the end of the league, they can compete. But I insist, if Barça continue at this level, I don’t think so.”**
There is no doubt that [Barcelona have started the new season in a very strong fashion](https://barcanewsnetwork.com/lamine-yamal-makes-barcelona-admission-after-flying-start-we-can-still-develop/), and if the last two years are anything to go by, the Catalans will be expected to easily win La Liga once again this season. However, as David Silva commented, other teams, like Real Madrid, will also be aiming for this title, and Flick’s team will still have to do their work to land another league title in their cabinet.
