Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts is partnering with Mielle Organics to expand textured haircare representation in the NFL. Hurts told InStyle he swears by the Rosemary Mint Scalp and Hair Strengthening Oil for supporting “stronger-looking hair after long days of sweat, helmet friction, and training.” Shop more NFL player-approved products like the Mielle Organics Pomegranate and Honey Leave-In Conditioner, ahead.
Happy football season to all who celebrate. I can’t say I’m the biggest diehard fan, but my ears do perk up when the Philadelphia Eagles are playing. From keeping up with the well-dressed WAGs to cheering for Jalen Hurts (have you seen the man?), I actually have quite the parasocial relationship with the team, which is why when I got wind that Mielle Organics was partnering with the star quarterback, I was suddenly very intrigued.
When you think about it, the collaboration makes total sense. Hurts is one of the NFL’s best (and most handsome) quarterbacks whose game-day ‘fits and grooming rival his play calls. I’ve never once seen his hair out of place or looking sparse despite wearing a helmet nearly 24/7. In the name of true journalism, I got him to divulge the hair care staples that leave his strands strong, shiny, and ready for anything (whether that’s the red zone or the red carpet).

Hurts told me short hair doesn’t necessarily mean lower maintenance, especially when you’re one of the top quarterbacks in the league. In fact, he says football puts his hair and scalp through the wringer. “Even with a bald fade, there’s still a detailed amount of preparation that goes into my grooming,” the 28-year-old says. “Between sweat, heat, helmet friction, and the demands of a full season, you have to be intentional about taking care of your hair and scalp and finding a routine that works for you.”
Cleansing consistently before applying Mielle’s Pomegranate and Honey Leave-In Conditioner has helped tremendously in maintaining “shine and moisture” in his hair thanks to the honey, babassu oil, strengthening peptides, and glycerin in the formula. As a Black athlete, Hurts tells me it’s not just about feeling put-together or being camera-ready. “Those routines are part of how we prepare. It’s not about vanity; it’s about confidence, discipline, and making sure you’re able to show up as your best self,” he says. From the barbershop to the locker room, Monique Rodriguez, founder of Mielle, says, “guys with textured hair have always had routines, standards, and pride in how they show up.” The partnership between Hurts and the hair care brand aims to highlight “the everyday routines that make NFL players and fans uniquely themselves,” according to the NFL’s senior vice president of global partnerships, Tracie Rodburg.

When Hurts tells me this beloved hair oil is also a “staple” in his routine, I know he knows ball. (See what I did there?) According to the NFL player, applying it to his scalp daily “helps nourish the scalp, lock in moisture, and support stronger-looking hair after long days of sweat, helmet friction, and training.” Formulated with biotin, rosemary, castor oil, peppermint oil, coconut oil, and jojoba oil, this product acts as an intensive treatment for thinning, weak, brittle hair and a dry, flaky scalp.
The multi-use oil has several benefits and different functions: You can apply it as a daily scalp refresh, like Hurts, for thicker, longer strands; dab some onto split ends nightly to reduce breakage; or use it as an all-over treatment before washing hair. One slick-back bun-loving shopper said using this oil “changed [their] life as far as hair is concerned,” filling in their “visibly thinning” hairline, reducing shedding, and promoting “a couple inches” of growth. Plus, a different shopper confirmed the oil leaves hair “glossy and smooth” immediately.

Hurts called this biotin-, rosemary-, and mint-enriched pomade one of his go-to products when he wants to feel “ready for whatever the day brings,” and for good reason—the brand promises 12 times stronger strands with consistent use of the line. The unique formula starts as a pomade but melts into a lightweight oil, so it’s great for locking in waves, achieving sculptural braided styles, sealing a twist out, soothing a dry, itchy scalp, or even refreshing an old silkpress. Shoppers promise it’s “not greasy and absorbs well,” making dry, textured hair “much softer and manageable.” To take full advantage of the pomade’s hair growth benefits, massage it into your scalp a few times a week.
