Signing for Liverpool is reportedly Kylian Mbappe’s priority, according to a bombshell claim from a journalist.
Things have changed drastically in terms of transfer strategy at Anfield in recent years, with Liverpool spending vastly more on new signings than at any point in history.
The Reds have spent £443m on signing Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike and Bradley Barcola since the end of the 2024/25 season, with little sign that they are planning to slow down.
Curiously, it coincides with FSG’s apparent desire to sell Liverpool outright to new minority stakeholders, 1892 Holdings. The consortium, backed by Jeff Bezos and led by Amit Bhatia, appears set to gain total control of the club in the next year.
The language in the 39% sale of the club to the consortium reportedly includes language which gives 1892 Holdings the right to buy the remaining 61% of shares within 12 months of the agreement being struck.
This week we received the biggest indication yet that FSG are looking toward a future which doesn’t include Liverpool in its portfolio, with FSG CEO Sam Kennedy outright stating that the Reds are no longer the focus of their sporting aims.
When asked if he would consider the Boston Red Sox to be the primary concern for FSG, Kennedy replied: “I would.”

With that in mind, I wonder if the change in transfer strategy is part of the desire for the new owners to take Liverpool in a different direction than the famously frugal and data-led approach FSG took since buying the club in 2011 until 2025.
If so, signing Mbappe would be the perfect way to announce the arrival of 1892 Holdings as the new outright owners of Liverpool Football Club.
Kylian Mbappe’s priority is to join Liverpool
According to a claim from Spanish journalist Francois Gallardo, Mbappe is the subject of a lot of transfer interest from Premier League clubs, but his priority is moving to Anfield.
Gallardo told Defensa Central: “Several Premier League teams are interested in Kylian Mbappe, but the player’s priority is Liverpool.
They have already contacted Fayza Lamari in recent weeks.”
Lamari is Mbappe’s mother and agent. She famously arranged for Mbappe to meet with Jurgen Klopp and John W. Henry, with his family taking a private plane trip with the Liverpool principal owner in 2017 as a courtesy before he moved to PSG for €180m (£152m).
Gallardo continued: “The player doesn’t feel loved or supported in the Real Madrid dressing room and that makes him uncomfortable.
“The transfer fee would be between 200 and 250 million euros.”
Gallardo then took to X to boldly claim: “WORLD EXCLUSIVE Kylian Mbappe is angry and disappointed with Real Madrid.
“He has made the decision to leave the club in the summer of 2027, and Real Madrid is not going to stand in his way. His next destination is in the Premier League. End boom! And if not, prove me wrong.”

I’m not quite sure how Liverpool plan to field a front line that would feature Ekitike, Isak, Barcola and Mbappe (not to mention Florian Wirtz in midfield), but it’s hard to reject the idea of Mbappe in a Red shirt.
384 goals and 142 assists for AS Monaco, PSG and Real Madrid speaks for itself.
