Mikel Arteta could now sign another left-back after Arsenal's'data team'are blown away

There’s a running joke among Arsenal fans that Mikel Arteta loves signing defenders, especially left-backs.

In less than seven years of his management, the Arsenal boss has signed eight players who are either natural left-backs or have been used in that position for one reason or another.

Those players are Nuno Tavares, Cedric Soares, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Takehiro Tomiyasu, Jakub Kiwior, Jurrien Timber, Piero Hincapie and Riccardo Calafiori. You could even add Bukayo Saka to this list.

Now, Arsenal are looking at another player who can play as a left back, and in a couple of different positions as well.

Arsenal analysts are impressed by Andrea Cambiaso

Andrea Cambiaso has become one of Juventus’ most important players in recent seasons.

The 26-year-old Italian joined the Old Lady in the summer of 2022, and after a year away on loan at Bologna, he has made a terrific name for himself in Turin.

A left-back by trade, Cambiaso has played on the opposite side as well as further forward on both flanks in a wing-back role over the years. He has impressed consistently.

That has led to a lot of speculation, with Arsenal previously linked with a move to sign Cambiaso when they were keen to strengthen the defence.

On paper, the Gunners don’t need another defender, but Hand of Arsenal has revealed that the data team at the club are blown away by Cambiaso, so much so that scouts have been told to watch him live.

It is still unclear if the appreciation will turn into genuine transfer interest, but it is clear that Cambiaso is being watched closely and has plenty of admirers at Arsenal.

Hand of Arsenal tweeted: “Andrea Cambiaso is a player who the data team are highly impressed with. His stats have got scouts now attending games to further develop the analysis around his ability and versatility.

“Long way to go before interest develops further and Juve adore the player.”

Andrea Cambiaso has already made an Arsenal admission

Cambiaso still has over two-and-a-half years left on his contract, and he is fully settled at Juventus. It’s unclear if he is even thinking of leaving.

What he is, and always has been, keen on is improving himself by studying other similar players who play in his positions. One of them is Arsenal star Riccardo Calafiori.

Cambiaso said about him in November 2025, as per Football Italia: “There are a lot (of players similar to me). If I had to name a name, I’d say Calafiori. He starts at full-back and ends up in attack.

“That’s how it is in general with Arsenal. I watch them, I study them, and if you asked Spalletti, I’m sure he’d also say: ‘Yes, I watch the Gunners.'”
