Richard Garlick
Arsenal CEO Richard Garlick has explained the decision to hand a new contract to Mikel Arteta. The former midfielder begins to repay the trust they placed on him at the start of his managerial career.
Arsenal had wanted a manager who could change the culture at the club. This was after Unai Emery was sacked. There are several other more experienced coaches that they would have taken on board.
Choosing Arteta Over Experience
However, they opted for the assistant manager at Manchester City. He had never coached another senior team before. They were sure they had the right man on board.
They gave him more than enough time to transform the culture at the club. He has made them the team to fear in the Premier League. They continue to perform well in Europe as well.

Garlick’s Comments on the Extension
He said via Standard Sports:
“It gives us a competitive advantage over the other teams. We’ve got a manager who has been allowed to build and develop over time. It’s not the end of it, it’s an exciting new beginning for us.”
The board views continuity as a strategic asset in modern football. Arteta’s deep understanding of the club’s identity supports long-term planning. His methods have fostered resilience and consistency across squads.
Supporters have responded positively to the stability at the top. The extension signals confidence in the current trajectory. Further investment in the squad is expected under his leadership.
Garlick’s remarks underline the value placed on patience and vision. The club’s recent successes validate their early faith in Arteta. This foundation positions them well for future domestic and European challenges.
