Chicago Bears Swift and Monangai Tracker Week 4

At no point in the first 106 seasons of Chicago Bears football have they had two different rushers top 1,000 yards. They came close in 1978, when Roland Harper’ 992 yards finished second to Sweetness. With D’Andre Swift and Kyle Monangai off to hot starts, I thought tracking a potential first in team history would be fun. Here’s your new tracker:

This should be pretty straightforward. Swift’s stats are on the left, and Monangai’s are on the right. Each game’s yardage will be tracked in the stacked bar charts. It is a 100% stacked bar for you stat nerds out there. The final bar will be what is left to reach 1,000 yards. I’ve also included a referee signaling a TD for each rushing score and a TNT blowing up for each explosive run that’s recorded (10+ yards). I’m not including receiving stats here, just rushing.

In the middle is a chart of the top 9 duos in franchise history with the current iteration in the final line. These are the top-producing duos in terms of yardage. You’ll notice a lot of Walter Payton. That should be no surprise. He forms the lead back in the top seven duos in team history. The Justin Fields year of 2022 and last year’s Swift and Monangai round out the list. I’ll be tracking Swift and Monangai’s rise through the ranks.

Through only four games, they currently have the 96th-best duo season in franchise history. They’ve moved ahead of some of the ancient marks from the 1920’s for the most part but one particularly sad year of note - 1970. That year, the backfield was led by the duo of Ross Montgomery (229 yards) and Don Shy (227 yards). Brutal.

_So, what do you guys think? Can Swift and Monangai each top 1,000 yards? Can they break the record for most rushing yards by a duo in franchise history?_
