Arsenal have been handed a clear update on the future of Inter Milan striker Pio Esposito, and why they face an uphill task to complete a deal. There have even been suggestions that Esposito could be viewed as a potential replacement for Viktor Gyokeres in the Gunners squad.

The summer transfer window saw Arsenal bring in four new signings to strengthen their squad, with Bruno Guimaraes, Ezri Konsa, Christos Tzolis and Illan Meslier all moving to the Emirates Stadium.

However, the Gunners chose not to go into the market for a new centre forward, despite seeing Gabriel Jesus, Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard all leave the club in the summer.

Atletico Madrid star Julian Alvarez, as well as Real Madrid forward Vinicius Jr., were both linked with moves to Arsenal in the summer, but neither went on to leave their respective clubs.

A fresh report from Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport has claimed that Arsenal made an approach during the summer to Inter to find out more details about the possibility of signing Esposito.

It has been claimed that Esposito’s market value has significantly increased ever since the striker signed a new contract back in September, which runs until the summer of 2032.

As a result, Inter’s chief executive, Beppe Marotta, is reported to have informed Arsenal that even an offer worth €100million (£84.7million) would not be enough to sign Esposito.

It has been suggested that Inter have seen several notable transfers by Premier League clubs in the summer, including Sandro Tonali’s £100million move to Tottenham Hotspur, and believe their market valuation for Esposito is more than fair.

Esposito has featured five times for Inter so far this season and already has two goals to his name, adding to the 10 he scored across all competitions last term.

Gyokeres enjoyed an impressive debut season for Arsenal last season, following his move from Sporting Lisbon, scoring 21 goals across all competitions and helped the Gunners end their 22-year wait to win a Premier League title.
