Hugo Ekitike has received a major boost in his recovery from a serious Achilles injury as per latest Liverpool news. The forward recently travelled to the United States to meet a specialist as he continues his rehabilitation. He was informed there that he was recovering fast and could potentially make a return to competitive football by the end of the year. However, Liverpool is yet to fix a return date for him.
Hugo Ekitike’s recovery comes at an important time
As reported by CaughtOffside, Ekitike is targeting a return to team training by November and could return to competitive football by December. He had been out since suffering a ruptured right Achilles tendon in April against Paris Saint-Germain.

His potential return could be important for Liverpool. The club has several options in attack, but the demands of the season will test their squad depth. Alexander Isak and Cody Gakpo are expected to be a key part of the attack. Gakpo has had injury concerns, and he even took a break from playing international football for the Netherlands. Hugo’s return comes at an important time. Even if he does not play as a starter right away, him coming off the bench could still help Liverpool a lot.
Hugo Ekitike can give Liverpool another attacking option
The forward’s return can add another attacking option for Liverpool which would help them immensely. Liverpool can change their attacking shape easily because of it. Hugo is also good at creating spaces as well as attacking defenders because of his pace. Liverpool often faces football teams that defend with a low block, and these skills would prove particularly useful in those situations.
Ekitike can also provide another solution. His return can give Iraola more freedom with his substitutions. He would be able to play more players instead of relying on the same players every week. This would put less strain on some players as playing minutes would be distributed more evenly. Isak’s workload has been a major concern for Liverpool. He has been the main option and with Hugo’s return his workload can be reduced.
Liverpool can also use both the forwards for different situations. Isak could start important matches because of his experience while Hugo would play selected matches or come off the bench. The two forwards could also be used together. Isak could stay closer to penalty areas while Hugo could play in the wider areas.
Liverpool will not want to rush Hugo Ekitike
The latest update about Hugo Ekitike is promising. However, the Premier League side might not want to rush his return. An Achilles injury is one of the most serious injuries a footballer can suffer. The recovery can take months and returning to full fitness will require lots of patience.
If he continues his recovery progress without any setbacks, a return to team training by November can be a possibility. However, Liverpool will still need to assess his fitness step by step.
Author’s opinion
Hugo might be able to recover by November. However, I do not think he should play until he is fully fit. He had suffered from an Achilles injury, which is one of the most dangerous injuries an athlete can suffer. If he plays without being fully fit, then he might be risking another injury. Liverpool and Hugo both should assess the injury and fitness levels carefully before deciding anything.
