Injured Liverpool forward spotted in training ahead of Manchester City clash

Liverpool players are back at the AXA Training Centre after the international break, as they prepare for Sunday’s Premier League game against Manchester City at Anfield.

City have won all five of their league games under Enzo Maresca. Liverpool are sixth, with two wins and three draws from five matches.

Training photos published on Thursday show the squad together again. Not everyone returned in good shape.

Alexander Isak and Cody Gakpo both came home early from international duty with thigh and ankle problems.

Hugo Ekitike is out long term. Conor Bradley is also unavailable, with a knee injury that has kept him out since January.

Despite sitting out France’s last UEFA Nations League clash against Belgium, Jeremy Jacquet has been spotted training with the group despite earlier fears of an injury.

Federico Chiesa was also spotted in the gym alongside his Liverpool teammates on Thursday. The forward has been injured since the start of the season.

Iraola confirmed the problem in August. Chiesa felt something in his back during the pre-season game against Como, and Iraola called it a small muscle injury.

He missed the season opener at Newcastle and has been out of action ever since.

Iraola said last month that “even Fede” should be back working with the group around the international break.

Chiesa joined Liverpool from Juventus in the summer of 2024. He struggled for regular appearances under Arne Slot, who left before this season.

Injury also affected his international return. Italy recalled him in March for the first time since Euro 2024. He pulled out of the squad on March 23 because of injury and returned to Liverpool.

Federico Chiesa turns 29 on October 25. Liverpool have nine matches to play before the November round of Nations League fixtures, so the squad’s depth will be tested soon after Sunday.
