‘As a club…’ - Newcastle United issue response to bombshell Man City guilty verdict

Matthias Jaissle was asked abot the Manchester City situation at his pre-match press conference.

Matthias Jaissle has stayed coy when asked to comment on Manchester City’s case with the Premier League.

It is almost two weeks since the bombshell news dropped that City were found guilty of 114 financial breaches. Given the scale of the violations and three-week international break, it has been the main football story in town.

Financial regulations have frustrated Newcastle since the Saudi-backed takeover five years ago. However, despite their grievances, the Magpies have been keen to stringently follow the guidelines.

Matthias Jaissle on Man City verdict

Ahead of Newcastle’s trip to Coventry City on Monday, Jaissle faced the media for the first time in three weeks. Unsurprisingly, the Toon boss was asked about the Man City situation - and played the question with a straight bat.

“I think as a manager of another club I am not able to judge,” Jaissle said. “It's not my job in my job description to judge on that. There are authorities taking care of it. I think there is a clear process now, which we have followed and, for us, I am speaking on behalf of the whole club, it's the right approach to focus on what we can influence.

“When it comes down to my job, it's what we can influence now to win on Monday against Coventry. We should just focus on what we can influence.

“This, in general as a club, is to improve, to thrive forward, to make that brave journey successful, and for us now in the football department also, to just focus on what we can do better (and) what we can influence on the pitch.”

How Matthias Jaissle found out

When asked where he was once the Man City news dropped, Jaissle added: “I just was reading about that, I got informed, but that's my approach and you know that already.

“Everything that I cannot influence, that doesn't really take energy and focus from my side, so I leave it with the authorities. I'm trusting them, and we focus on the things we can influence.”
