The sporting directors have been on the end of plenty of criticism after a series of underwhelming signings, with many hoping for replacements in those roles at Stamford Bridge.
Former Liverpool chief Michael Edwards is amongst the highest-rated in the world in this role, and has previously been quoted as interested in taking over duties in West London too.
While these efforts didn’t end up in them making a hiring, Simon Phillips believes that Chelsea are going to make an effort to bring in Edwards following Stewart’s departure.
He said: “Despite claims that there is no like-for-like replacement in line for Stewart, this could just be clever wording. Another SPTC Source understands that Chelsea still have a firm interest in bringing Michael Edwards to the club and if that does end up happening, he would have a very powerful role here.
“Edwards has been hugely admired and respected by Chelsea’s owners for some time and they have already attempted to bring him into the board room. Sources are hearing that they WILL try again.”
Chelsea needed this break BADLY… but with so many players racking up minutes for their countries, did it actually help them or could it have made things worse? 🤔

You right there how make you feel about how to win things like winning the game
Why is Chelsea not looking at a defender like Calvin Bassey and do everything to sign that beast of a defender. Because he has everything attributes of being a great addition to any top club in the league
Edwards is most well-known for a highly-successful tenure in the role at Liverpool, which coincided with them winning the Premier League for the first time in their history.
Chelsea previously made an incredible offer to bring Edwards in when the new owners took over, with their project at the time seen as far more exciting than it ended up being.
It remains to be seen if they are able to convince the Englishman to join them now, however a switch in their transfer policy over the summer to bring in established Premier League stars could certainly work in their favour.
