NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said a key to keeping fans locked in to games longer is to “make the content that much more engaging,” which can range from graphics, camera angles and audio feeds available to viewers. Silver, appearing on “The Varsity,” said there is an opportunity to use “new technologies to create more engaging experiences” for the next generation of fans. Silver said younger viewers are “used to multitasking” and are “going to be interacting with something while they’re watching the game.” Silver: “The opportunity here is for them to be interacting with our content while they’re watching the game.” He noted the league is involved in ongoing discussions with its media partners about improving the viewing experience, noting the NBA is conducting its own research and development and exploring “how can we create a more engaging experience.” Silver noted traditional TV had “disenfranchised a large segment of our audience,” particularly younger viewers who watch “most of their video content on phones and devices, maybe on a television, but the source of the content of their television was streaming content.” Reflecting on the [first year of the new rights deal](/Articles/2024/07/10/nba-finalizes-media-rights-deals-nbc-espn-amazon/), Silver said the fans “found us in record numbers” (_“The Varsity,” 10/6_).
