Liverpool FC will host Manchester City this weekend in a much-anticipated Premier League contest, just over week after Manchester City were found guilty of 114 charges, and 21 days since LFC's last game. The match is scheduled at 4.30pm on Sunday October 11, but that date coincides with the start of a major infrastructure project on Liverpool's rail network, and will impact fans travelling to Anfield Stadium.

Trains on the Hunts Cross line will be cancelled for four weeks due to major engineering works. All services running between Hunts Cross and Moorfields will cease operations on Sunday, October 11, and will not return to normal until Saturday, November 7 - this includes the cancellation of services to-and-from Sandhills station.

Merseyrail confirmed that rail replacement buses will serve the stations that are without rail services during this period - which includes Sandhills, Hunts Cross, Liverpool South Parkway, Cressington, Aigburth, St Michaels, Brunswick and Moorfields. While Liverpool Central is on this route, it is not covered by the replacement buses.

The operator said its rail replacement buses will run as closely as possible to the usual train timetable. But customers are advised that rail replacement buses can take longer than train journeys and allowing extra time for their journey and planning ahead using the Merseyrail website and app is advised.

Earlier this week, Everton FC issued a travel warning to fans ahead of its Premier League home match against Chelsea on Saturday, October 17, but before then, the next Premier League game in the city is this weekend at Anfield, and on the same day when engineering works are scheduled to start.

For thousands of fans travelling to Anfield, Sandhills train station typically acts as one of the main transportation hubs as people journey from different parts of the Liverpool City Region, and then walk the extra 2km distance to Anfield or jump on the Soccerbus The station is also used by away fans travelling in from the city centre.

There will be rail replacement bus services available, but none from Liverpool Central Station. The quickest way to get from the city centre to Sandhills is via Moorfields where rail replacement bus services will run approximately every ten minutes , with a scheduled journey time of ten minutes.

Train services will be running as usual between: Southport - Liverpool Central, Ormskirk - Liverpool Central, Headbolt Lane - Liverpool Central.
