There was talk about Sean Payton taking over the Denver Broncos' play-calling duties. Then it seemed like it wouldn’t go that far. But now it’s official, as Payton is set to call the plays for the Broncos’ offense, according to a post on X by Adam Schefter.

“Sean Payton to reporters today: ‘We’ll make a change offensively. I’ll call the plays.’ ”

Well, that about sums it up. Offensive coordinator Davis Webb will have fewer things to do Sunday.

The Broncos haven’t been what people have expected this year. Perhaps that’s because Webb hasn’t been able to get the team in a flow. But Payton apparently thinks he can fix it.

Payton said it’s about specifics, according to ESPN.

“I think our focus needs to be more on the specific and the detail of each play regardless [of who's calling the plays],” Payton said. “I think Davis is very fast, very quick, and understands what we're doing. I think that the most important job I have is really evaluating the whys.

“I think collectively, we all, after a game, and after a four-game sample size, certainly this isn't championship football, what we see. How quickly can we correct those things?”

Broncos quarterback Bo Nix said he and his teammates don’t need to listen to all of the buzz.

“You don't want to listen to too many things, the noise, that's not going to do anything for you,” Nix said. “You want to make sure you're listening to your coaches, your teammates, the people who are actually trying to make you better and understand a little more of what's going on and that sort of thing. For me, it's all about who you're giving your attention to.”

For the season, Nix has completed just 60% of his passes for 819 yards. He has five touchdowns and three interceptions. The Broncos have a record of 2-2, surprisingly sitting in third place of the AFC West.
