Estevao Willian’s family happy to be in the Premier League
While Estevao may not be playing as much as he would have liked right now, his family seem grateful that the Brazilian has been handed the opportunity to play in the Premier League. According to journalist Ben Jacobs, they are happy to see him in the division.
Speaking on TheCFCHub, Jacobs said: “Estevao’s camp and his family, they are very humble and very happy to be in the Premier League. None of them have ever said, ‘You’ll start every week. You’ll play in the number 10 position.’ The real challenge will be: will he eventually get that opportunity in the centre? And I think there’s a feeling that Estevao behind Joao Pedro would be a very productive combination. But you have to leave one of them out.
“And if you take one of the midfielders out, you leave yourself exposed in the centre defensively. He’s not going to bring on Estevao and take one of the wing-backs out because that’s the core of the system. So, as I said before, you simply have a choice between [Cole] Palmer or Estevao in this system at the moment, and there’s no reason to leave Palmer out, and there are plenty of reasons to use Estevao as a substitute. He’s impactful; he’s energetic and poses a significant challenge to defenders, so bringing him on for the last half hour could be a lethal weapon for Chelsea.”
It may very well take a change of system to get Estevao into this Chelsea team. If Xabi Alonso uses a 4-2-3-1 formation, there should be room for Estevao, Palmer, Pedro and Morgan Rogers.
Estevao has done a lot of travelling over this international break, so he may not be available to start on Saturday anyway. But Palmer should be fresh for the visit of Bournemouth after spending time recovering from his injury and resting.
Estevao Willian’s Premier League stats
In total, Estevao has made 26 appearances in the Premier League. He has scored two goals and provided two assists.
Last season, he was the second-best dribbler in Chelsea’s squad. According to WhoScored, the Brazil international completed 1.3 dribbles per game in the English top flight, more than any other Chelsea player bar Pedro Neto (1.4).
Estevao showed flashes of what he could do in the Premier League, but he made more of an impact in the Champions League. The former Palmeiras attacker finished the 2025/26 Champions League campaign with three goals in seven outings. He also had an average of two dribbles per game.
