Milwaukee Bucks vs. Oklahoma City Thunder: Game Highlights (1:19)

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is getting into the ownership game.

On Thursday, Spanish soccer giants Atlético Madrid announced that the Oklahoma City Thunder guard would be joining the club as an investor.

"I am excited to officially join the group of shareholders of Atlético de Madrid," Gilgeous-Alexander said in the club's post. "This is a club with a long history at the top of European football, and I am grateful for the opportunity to be part of its future."

The NBA superstar is far from the first athlete, active or former, to enter the ownership sphere. Here are other athletes who are now team owners:

Jason Kidd -- Everton

In April 2025, English Premier League club Everton announced that then-Dallas Mavericks coach Jason Kidd would be adding a different title to his résumé: ownership group member. The news came after Kidd joined Roundhouse Capital Holdings, which is part of the Friedkin Group -- the U.S. firm that completed its takeover of Everton's ownership the previous December.

Vince Carter, Tracy McGrady, Jozy Altidore -- Buffalo Bills

In December 2024, the Bills announced Carter, McGrady and Altidore were among 10 limited partners the team was adding to its ownership group. Both McGrady (New York Knicks) and Altidore (New York Red Bulls) played for New York-area teams, while Carter spent time with the Brooklyn Nets (who were known as the New Jersey Nets at the time) and was McGrady's teammate on the Toronto Raptors (who are closer to Buffalo than NYC-based teams).

Tom Brady -- Las Vegas Aces, Las Vegas Raiders, Birmingham City

The Las Vegas Aces, the reigning WNBA champions, have added to their championship credentials. Seven-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady acquired a minority stake in the team whose majority owner is Las Vegas Raiders owner Mark Davis.

"I have always been a huge fan of women's sports, and I admire the work that the Aces' players, staff, and the WNBA continue to do to grow the sport and empower future generations of athletes," Brady said in a statement. "To be able to contribute in any way to that mission as a member of the Aces organization is an incredible honor."

Brady attended an Aces game in May 2022 and sent gifts to star Kelsey Plum. Plum and other Aces players were excited to have Brady as part of the team.

He also added the Las Vegas Raiders to his resume after his purchase of minority stake in the franchise was approved by NFL teams owners on Tuesday. The deal was agreed on in May 2023, but it took owners 17 months to give their approval over concerns he was receiving too much of a discount from majority owner Mark Davis.

Brady is also a minority owner of Birmingham City, a club in English soccer's second-tier Championship.

Lewis Hamilton -- Denver Broncos

The Broncos' ownership group added racing royalty in August 2022. Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton has a stake with the Walton-Penner group, which purchased the team in June 2022.

Hamilton, 37, has the Formula One record for most race wins and has won the Formula One title seven times. The ownership group, which purchased the team for $4.65 billion, is led by Walmart heir Rob Walton and includes former U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, who also has a stake.

In April, Hamilton joined with Serena Williams in a consortium led by former Liverpool chairman Martin Broughton in an attempt to buy Premier League club Chelsea.

"He is a champion competitor who knows what it takes to lead a winning team," Walton said in a statement.
