Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes Leaves Every Other NFL Quarterback Behind in Latest Rankings 1
October 8, 2026 Featured, Kansas City Chiefs, NFL
The Kansas City Chiefs moved to 4-0 after a tough 30-27 win over the Las Vegas Raiders. But the victory came with injury concerns. Rashee Rice suffered a hamstring injury, and Tyquan Thornton left with a dislocated ankle, forcing Patrick Mahomes to stay calm without two key targets.
Even with fewer weapons and heavy defensive pressure, Mahomes continues to rank among the NFL’s best quarterbacks. Pro Football Focus’s latest rankings show how he is keeping Kansas City ahead of the competition.
Patrick Mahomes tops PFF’s Week 5 quarterback rankings amid injury crisis
Patrick Mahomes remains No. 1 in Pro Football Focus’s Week 5 quarterback rankings after Kansas City survived Las Vegas in a divisional matchup on the road. The Chiefs are 4-0, but the victory removed two important options from Mahomes’ offense. Rashee Rice left with a hamstring injury, and Tyquan Thornton suffered a dislocated ankle after a 55-yard catch in the fourth quarter.

“One of Patrick Mahomes’ biggest critiques of himself recently was that he was trying to hit every deep ball PERFECTLY in stride. He wanted to start putting more air underneath them and giving his WRs a chance to make a play. We are seeing the results!” Daily Chiefs said. The quote highlights a change in Mahomes’ approach: he is giving receivers more room to adjust rather than demanding perfect timing on every deep throw.
That adjustment mattered against a Raiders defense that pressured him throughout the 30-27 game. Mahomes finished with 225 passing yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions, and Kansas City leaned more on its rushing attack after its receiver room lost depth. The Chiefs now have a Week 5 bye before hosting the Los Angeles Chargers on October 18.
Inside Mahomes’ dominant statistical profile through four games
Mahomes has had to navigate shifting protection schemes while his supporting cast battles mounting injuries. The injury report details how quickly the Chiefs lost receiver depth, yet Mahomes still finished without an interception.
His numbers explain the ranking. Mahomes has produced 1,037 passing yards and nine touchdowns, plus a 6.7% big-time throw rate that leads the league. His 1.3% turnover-worthy play rate is the NFL’s fourth-lowest mark. The Raiders also recorded how he handled pressure behind a changing offensive line.
Those figures point to more than arm talent alone. Mahomes is creating high-value throws, avoiding costly mistakes, and keeping the offense functional as targets disappear. That combination gives Kansas City its best chance to protect the unbeaten start after the bye.
