Giannis Antetokounmpo has a clear idea of where he ranks among the greatest players in basketball history, while also believing there is still room for him to climb even higher.
During a speech in front of several young players at a basketball training camp, the Greek superstar dropped an inspiringly bold claim about his place among the best to ever play.
“I wasn't a top pick. I wasn't Rookie of the Year. I wasn't all of that. But I'll tell you one thing, I'm Top 20 of all time," Giannis exclaimed. ... I'm gonna get Top 10.”
Can Giannis make it to the Top 10?
Giannis Antetokounmpo already hammered a Hall of Fame resume at age 31. He is a two-time NBA MVP, a Defensive Player of the Year winner, a 10-time NBA All-Star, a nine-time All-NBA selection (seven first-team selections), and a five-time All-Defensive team member.
After leading the Milwaukee Bucks to the 2021 title, he cemented his case as one of the NBA's greatest by becoming a member of the league's 75th Anniversary Team.
However, in recent years, Giannis' relevance has steadily declined. While still a dominant force and in discussion as one of the best players in the world, injuries have impacted his availability.
He only played 36 games last season with the Bucks, nursing multiple injuries and calf issues.
Now in a new chapter with the Miami Heat, only time will tell whether Giannis will eventually reach the top-10 leaderboard.
