The packed crowd at AT&T Stadium was in disbelief after the Dallas Cowboys lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 24-16, on Thursday. The Cowboys were heavily favored to win, but they did not get the job done.
The Buccaneers notched their first victory after a 0-4 start, while the Cowboys fell to 2-3, including 1-2 at home.
Dallas still had a chance to win, but Dak Prescott's pass to Jake Ferguson with only a minute left was intercepted by Alex Anzalone.
In the postgame conference, Prescott gave credit to Tampa Bay, but he also could not help but share his frustration, as reported by the Dallas Morning News' Joseph Hoyt.
“We were definitely supposed to win this game,” said Prescott. “This sucks, and right up there close to embarrassing, but I wouldn't say that.”
He went 24-of-42 for 316 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions.
The four-time Pro Bowler kept the Cowboys afloat in the fourth quarter, leading a 99-yard drive, including connecting with George Pickens for a 13-yard score.
The Cowboys, who earned plenty of hype in the offseason, have struggled with consistency on both ends of the field despite the repeated pleas of coach Brian Schottenheimer to plug their holes.
“I didn’t plan on being 2-3. Disappointed by that for sure. But we're just getting started. There's a lot of football left, and we’re gonna play better. We know that,” said Schottenheimer, as quoted by the Associated Press' Schulyer Dixon.
Prescott, who signed a four-year, $420 million contract extension in 2024, hurt his hand against the Houston Texans in Week 4. He, however, stressed that it was not a cause for concern.
Dallas will visit the Green Bay Packers in Week 6.
