FC Barcelona made up to seven new signings during the last summer transfer window, and some of these new signings, most notably Anthony Gordon, Karim Adeyemi, Joao Cancelo, and Rodri Hernandez, have already become important players for Hansi Flick.
Meanwhile, some youngsters have also gained significantly in importance at the start of this new season. One such case is that of Brian Farinas, who was given a first team number for this season, even though he has not yet played a single minute for the first team.
Similarly, [Xavi Espart is another youth academy graduate who has been given an important role in the first team by Flick](https://barcanewsnetwork.com/xavi-espart-opens-up-about-his-rapid-rise-at-barcelona-im-living-a-dream/). Despite being naturally a midfielder, the youngster has played as a fullback on both the flanks.
In fact, his performances have been so good that Barcelona have decided to give him a new contract, and according to [Mundo Deportivo](https://www.mundodeportivo.com/futbol/fc-barcelona/20261008/1004236310/acuerdo-renovacion-xavi-espart.html), the player and the club have already reached an agreement to extend his contract, which currently ends in 2028, till 2030.
A formal contract signing ceremony will take place later, but its date has not yet been set, and will be decided keeping in view the club’s sporting schedule. Joan Laporta will also attend this ceremony, during which Espart will also talk to the media.
In this international break, the youngster played for the Spanish U-19 team, before rejoining the Blaugrana team to prepare for the upcoming league game against Getafe.
Having made his debut for the first team last season, Xavi Espart has gone on to prove his capabilities at the highest level, and that too with a team as big and competitive as Barcelona. It is good to see the Catalan club rewarding the player for his performances with this new contract, and hopefully, he will only go on to grow and shine further with the Blaugrana team.
