Everton have responded to the news of The Friedkin Group putting the club on the market less than two years from their initial takeover.
It is not the news that Everton supporters will have wanted to wake up to on Friday morning as the club faces the reality of another laborious takeover process. The Friedkin Group are looking to sell Everton despite barely having time to get their feet under the table.
The club have taken little time to issue their own statement to the news which will not have come as a surprise to many supporters on Merseyside. Taking to TalkingPoints, there have been a lot of Everton fans sharing their frustrations with the Friedkins following the summer window.

“The Friedkin Group is exploring new investment options for Everton Football Club, including the potential sale of a controlling interest,” said the club.
“When TFG became custodians of Everton, the Club faced significant financial uncertainty and challenges both on and off the pitch. The immediate priority was to provide the stability, investment and support needed to secure the Club’s future, including helping to bring the long-promised stadium to completion for its deserving supporters.
“With that foundation now safely in place, the time is right to consider the next chapter for Everton. We will only entertain interest from parties who we strongly believe will be the right stewards to take the Club forward and build on the momentum that has been established.”
Everton are heading back into Premier League action this weekend against Hull City on Sunday. This news is hardly the ideal preparation for Moyes ahead of the away trip to Humberside following what has been a promising start to the 2026/27 campaign.
“Throughout this process, TFG’s focus will remain unchanged. We will support the Club in all ways necessary to achieve success on the pitch and will continue efforts to make a positive difference in the communities the Club serves.
“TFG and the Club will not be commenting further while this work is under way. Moelis & Company has been retained by TFG.”
