Frank Lampard's honest response to the possibility of stripping Man City of titles has caused a …

Frank Lampard has responded to claims that Man City could be stripped of their historic Premier League titles, and fans are not happy with him.

City were recently found guilty of 114 financial breach charges between 2009 and 2018 and now face major sanctions, subject to the appeal process, including the possibility of points deductions, relegation, and even being kicked out of football entirely going forward.

But there are also suggestions that the club could have the three Premier League titles they won during that period stripped from their honours list as a result of their cheating.

Lampard played at the club during that time, making 38 appearances and scoring eight goals in the 2014/15 season, and is now manager of Premier League club Coventry City.

When asked about the verdict while speaking in his first press conference since the guilty judgement, Lampard opted to sit on the fence with his response.

“I don’t have an opinion on it right now.

“I have titles but I don’t have them hanging on my wall. I have them in my head.

“Most players that have played and competed against the best players have worked very hard to win. So I think it would be very hard to take someone’s title away as a player individually as I think they should be in your head as opposed to in this beautiful glass cabinet or whatever.”

Fans Rage at Lampard Response to Man City Guilty Verdict

Coventry's Manager: Frank Lampard

Fans have issued a response to the England legend's comments on the situation, with many unhappy at the stance he has chosen to take.

One fan wrote: "Ok Frank… let’s talk this through slowly. They can keep their medals and how they feel but all trophy wins FOR THE TEAM will be removed from the record books."

Another said: "I really hate this view. They won because of illegally assembled squads. That renders the value of what those squads achieved moot."

One also picked up on his statements, saying: "It's not a question of 'who remembers what'... let players, fans, whoever remember whatever they want, live in whatever fantasy they want...that's not what this is about. This is about titles being won by cheating at the highest level of sport. That cannot stand. So yes, their titles need to be stripped. Fans and players can remember whatever they want however they want. But the record books should not show City as champions in that time frame."

Another fan said: "No one says they didn't play the games or score the goals. The point is that they cheated to put the team together to play the games and score the goals. It's disingenuous to pretend it's just about the one bit when the entire point is that it's all of it."

Someone else said: "They can keep them in their head if they want. I don’t think anybody was advocating for mind wiping the playing staff. Just don’t talk to me about them and expect me to care."

Coventry have already faced off against Man City in the Premier League this season, losing 1-0 before the international break. The Sky Blues are currently preparing to take on Newcastle on Monday night at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
