Bruce Brown addresses frustration with the second apron among players

Bruce Brown, who struggled to get an NBA opportunity this offseason due to the second apron restricting teams, revealed frustration about the financial rules among players.

Brown signed an Exhibit 9 deal with the New York Knicks in the middle of September and is fighting for a roster spot during the preseason.

He was asked if there is frustration from players with the second apron during a locker room interview.

"I'm sure there is. The new CBA is good for max guys, top free agents and maybe rookie extension guys. Other than that, the middle guys, it kind of sucks for us," Brown said via SNY.

"There's not a lot of people getting that full mid-level or even the tax mid-level. It's tough, but that's just the way it is right now. Each time you're out there, you just gotta play your best and hope for the best."

Brown was told by teams that the second apron was why they wouldn't sign him, per Stefan Bondy of the New York Post.

The guard entered free agency after reuniting with the Denver Nuggets last season, where he averaged 7.9 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 2.1 assists across all 82 games.

In the end, despite the tough situation he is facing, Bruce Brown accepts the challenge of fighting for another chance to play in the NBA.

"You got to prove yourself every year. I’ve been on eight teams in nine years. Every year you got to prove yourself, prove you’ve gotten better," Brown said. "But with this team obviously the first and second units are pretty set, I’d say. So obviously I’d have to provide a winning attitude.

"I’m fighting for a job right now. So any role they give me, I’d be happy to do it."
