The big game as the Premier League returns to action after a three-week international break undoubtedly comes at Anfield on Sunday as Liverpool host Manchester City.

It will be the first game since City were hit with a guilty verdict over their 115 financial breaches, which they have already appealed against, and there is sure to be a hostile atmosphere.

All eyes will be on the City players, who have helped the club to a 100% start to the season so far, and how they react under the pressure, not only of the crowd and playing at Anfield, but with what has happened in the last two weeks off the pitch.

But Liverpool may not be at their strongest to be able to stick the boot into the Citizens, with Andoni Iraola having a number of injury issues to contend with ahead of the big match.

Here GIVEMESPORT takes a look at who is missing for the Reds.

Iraola's main striker, who has hit a good run of form at the start of this season, could miss the match and that would leave Liverpool very light up top given Hugo Ekitike's long-term absence.

Isak was forced to leave Sweden's camp early during the international break after picking up a thigh injury and Iraola has confirmed he is out against City.

Another of Iraola's star performers this season is also an injury concern. Gakpo scored against Germany but then only managed 17 minutes of the game against Serbia, returning to Liverpool early.

The ankle injury is not expected to keep him out for long, but Iraola says he won't be available to face Enzo Maresca's side.

The young defender has slotted in seamlessly into the Liverpool backline alongside Virgil van Dijk but he is another injury concern.

He was not in the France squad for their last international break fixture against Belgium after suffering a hamstring strain, but Liverpool have been boosted by the news that he is available to face City.

Federico Chiesa

Could be part of the squad this weekend, having not played under Iraola as yet.

A back injury has kept him out of action, but with Gakpo potentially sidelined he could be thrown straight back into action if he is deemed match fit.

Longer-term injuries

Hugo Ekitike remains sidelined with an Achilles tendon injury and will not return to action until the start of 2027.

Conor Bradley is another who is on the long-term injured list with a knee injury, although he could return before 2027, similar to Giovanni Leoni.
