David Moyes admitted was surprised to hear the news that Everton’s owners are looking to sell the club and that he only found out about the plans on Friday morning. The Friedkin Group (TFG) only completed its purchase of Farhad Moshiri’s 94.1 per cent stake in the club in December 2024 and oversaw the move from Goodison Park to the new Hill Dickinson Stadium.
But it was confirmed on Friday morning that TFG are now 'exploring new investment options,' which includes selling the club should suitable future custodians emerge. And Moyes admitted that the developments had taken him by surprise.
He said: "Yeah, I was surprised because they'd only come in a year-and-a-half ago.

"I think most of us expected them to be here for the next 20-30 years. But maybe after the way things worked out in the transfer window, I think we'd seen through that.
"I'm a little bit surprised but maybe I shouldn't be surprised. No (I don't feel let down) because I love this club too much and they could have sold it (the job) to me at any time and I still would have taken it.
“It's for Evertonians that I'm more disappointed because they've been through so many difficult periods. The last thing they really wanted to hear was this.
"We went through a season (last year) without too much drama, apart from the money we had to pay for Burnley, but we were challenging at the right end of the league.

“So I'm more disappointed for Evertonians that they have to go through another period of 'who are going to be the new owners'."
Moyes then added: “It’s a great club and if there’s anyone out there who wants to buy it, and if they want to speak me, I’ll be the first one to talk to them and let them know it’s worth buying.”
It is believed that TFG have set an asking price of about £800m, inclusive of debts of about £380m, for the club.
And Moyes believes a quick sale would be beneficial, saying: " Yeah. I’ve just been reading this morning and I’m looking forward to getting the right people in to take the club further forward.
"It’s a great club. If anyone wants to speak to me then I will be the first person to let them know that it is certainly worth buying."
The Scot himself is also in the final of his contract, but admitted: : "I’ve not really thought about it yet from that point of view.
“The players have been great so far and we will keep them focused on what we’ve got to do and what we can do which is trying to win games.
"I always think Evertonian’s are galvanized more when there’s a situation where they know the team and manager needs help. We stick together."
