Chelsea have been one of the Premier League’s best teams at shooting from distance this term. As per The Athletic, they have a long-shot accuracy of 28%, which is the fifth highest in the division, while two of their goals have come from this avenue. It is one area where they are thriving under Alonso.
It is helping Chelsea to outperform their xG, which is currently 7.3, according to FotMob. In total, Alonso’s side have scored 10 goals in five games.
The above is not sustainable. Palmer and Rogers cannot score goals from outside the box every game. It is why Chelsea need to improve defensively and learn how to win ugly.
There are some injury doubts going into the Bournemouth fixture, but Alonso should at least have his talisman, Palmer, to call upon. Palmer is expected to be fit after missing England’s recent games due to load management.
Bournemouth will be without their key midfielder and Chelsea target Alex Scott, who picked up an injury while with the Three Lions.
