Arsenal Team News

Speaking ahead of Arsenal vs Leeds United, Mikel Arteta confirmed that Declan Rice will be available, adding that the midfielder has had ‘a few issues’ following the World Cup this summer.

Christos Tzolis has been ruled out ‘for a few weeks’ with a muscle issue, whilst both Kai Havertz and Ezri Konsa are doubts for Saturday’s game.

On Manchester City being found guilty of breaching financial rules, Arteta said: “My position and the club’s position is not to make any further comment until it is resolved.

“There is a lot of noise around it. There is nothing in our hands and the only thing we can do is focus on everything we can do.”

When asked about the contract extension he agreed last week, the Spaniard said: “I said from the beginning that me and the club wanted the same thing, but I loved the way it was handled.”

In his pre-match press conference on Thursday, Farke confirmed that Joe Rodon will be unavailable for Saturday’s match, but added that he was ‘on his way back’ and had been involved in individual training sessions this week.

Daniel James will also miss out, having returned from international duty with Wales carrying a back injury.

Harry Wilson, another of Leeds’ ever-growing Welsh contingent, has returned to team training this week after suffering a quad injury prior to the international break. Farke said the winger would have to be monitored to see whether he could play some part at the weekend.

On Jean-Matteo Bahoya, who picked up an ankle injury whilst playing for France’s Under-21 side, he said: “We have to wait now to see how his body reacts, but it seems there is a chance that he is available.”

The Last Word: Match Prediction

With Arsenal winning both their games against Leeds last season with an aggregate score of 9-0, including a 5-0 thrashing at the Emirates, things are not looking promising for the Whites.

Crushing defeat at Brighton aside, Arteta’s side have been exceptional this season, and had won seven games in a row in all competitions prior to their trip to the Amex.

However, Farke’s side have also been highly impressive in their opening five Premier League games, recording two wins and three draws and conceding just three goals. With a victory over the Gunners taking them as high as second place, the Whites should not be written off, but are realistically going to find it extremely difficult.

Prediction: Arsenal 3-1 Leeds
