Forget Gyokeres: £50m star is surely finished at Arsenal after big Berta decision [view]

Arsenal sold some of their key players from recent seasons during the summer, and it would be no surprise if the same thing happens again in 2027.

Gabriel Martinelli, Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Jesus have all played their part in Arsenal's success in recent seasons, but all were deemed surplus to requirements following the club's Premier League title win, as they looked to freshen up the squad and kick on again.

The Gunners' campaign had started in outstanding fashion with a 100% record in all competitions, up until their surprise 3-0 defeat against Brighton and Hove Albion before the extended international break.

Mikel Arteta will be desperate for his team to bounce back from that loss when they host Leeds United at the Emirates on Saturday lunchtime, and he will hope to have an almost fully fit squad to choose from after an international break that appears to have produced its fair share of injury issues for Premier League clubs.

With the likes of Havertz and Bukayo Saka fully fit this season, prior to the players flying away to represent their countries, it has meant that minutes have been severely limited for some of Arteta's attacking players.

That includes Viktor Gyokeres, who is yet to start in the Premier League despite making 55 appearances in all competitions for the Gunners last term.

The Swede has certainly fallen out of favour, but he will hope that his form during the break for his country has sent a message to Arteta, scoring in every one of Sweden's four Nations League games.

Another player hoping for more opportunities will be Noni Madueke, although the latest reports from TEAMtalk claim that Andrea Berta is ready to include the England international as part of a deal to bring Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez to the Emirates.

The Argentina international is said to be having a change of heart over joining Arsenal having been focused on trying to secure a move to Barcelona in the summer.

Madueke's Arsenal Future in Major Doubt

Noni Madueke

With Arsenal actively looking to sign a striker, as proven by their pursuit of Alvarez, and the fact that they are willing to include Gyokeres and/or Madueke in a deal, it suggests there is probably no way back for the Swede.

Madueke could be in the same boat as the 28-year-old because, like the centre-forward, his minutes have been severely limited following the return to full fitness of Saka.

If you take away the Community Shield in August, the £50m winger has only played 116 minutes of football, and has been an unused substitute in three of the Gunners' previous four Premier League games.

As if that wasn't bad enough, Arsenal are now seemingly ready to offload him in a deal that would allow them to bring Alvarez to north London.

When that sort of thing is happening, the writing is clearly on the wall, and you would imagine that there is a high chance that this will be the former Chelsea man's final season at Arsenal.

Arteta said he was a fan of the winger's unpredictability 12 months ago, but perhaps that lack of consistency has finally caught up on the 24-year-old.

The Spanish boss said in September of last year: “He’s very skilful, very unpredictable, he’s so willing to learn and he brings joy.

Madueke hasn't really shown the consistency needed to prove he should be a consistent starter for Arsenal, and while he did score in the EFL Cup tie against Ipswich Town, he was outshone on the night by 16-year-old Max Dowman.

With Arsenal reportedly ready to offload him in their bid to land their top transfer target, his career at the Emirates is probably finished.
