Replying to @stevegooner1987 My biggest regret in football? Leaving Liverpool. 💔🔴 After my injury, when things weren’t going my way, I didn’t always have the right attitude or show the professionalism I should have. Looking back, I wish I’d handled things differently. I was playing for my boyhood club, living the dream, and I let my frustrations get the better of me. You can’t change the past, but you can learn from it. Some lessons stay with you forever. ❤️ Liverpool fans, do you think I could’ve achieved more at the club? 👀👇 #LiverpoolFC #LFC #YNWA #FootballRegrets

Liverpool will be without both Alexander Isak and Cody Gakpo for Sunday’s match against Manchester City after Andoni Iraola ruled both players out.

The pair returned early from international duty, and though there had been hope that they might be ready in time to face City, Iraola has confirmed that neither will play.

There had been worry over centre-back Jeremy Jacquet as well, but the Liverpool head coach thankfully said that the Frenchman had been passed fit ahead of the match.

Jacquet is fit to play against City

Jacquet had an brilliant international break with France, excelling in two matches before being pulled out of the third. Asked about the 21-year-old during Friday’s press conference, Iraola also praised his contribution, before confirming that he is fine for Sunday.

“He’s fit, he’s ready to go,” the Spaniard said. “He should be fine. We need to get through tomorrow, but he’s fine.”

Unfortunately, the same is not true of Isak or Gakpo, who Iraola ruled out and did not give a clear timeframe on when they will return.

“Alexander Isak and Cody Gakpo will not play the game, they are not ready,” he said. “Unfortunately for us they both got injuries during the international break.”

“We’ve been unlucky with Alex and Cody, both of them are injured and they are not going to be involved on Sunday.”

Asked when he is expecting to have both players available, Iraola insisted that the problems do not look like long-term issues, but are bad enough to make them impossible to be considered for the weekend.

“Cody has an ankle injury, he has had some before in his career and it’s a matter of him dealing with the pain. If you twist your ankle, it was a bad tackle, I think, he won’t be ready for Sunday.

“Alex has a small thigh injury and whenever he feels ready, they don’t look like long-term, we will be analysing day to day but they are not going to arrive on Sunday.”
