Liverpool continue to be linked with a stunning move for Bayern Munich superstar Michael Olise, but now a significant new development has emerged.
The 25-year-old winger is one of the best players in the world on current form, starring with his attacking brilliance at both club and international level in recent years.
According to a claim from ITK Space on X this week, Liverpool are in close contact with Olise over a move to Anfield, as they look to seal an incredible piece of business:
“Michael Olise’s representatives have been in contact behind the scenes with three clubs, namely Liverpool Football Club, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid, while Manchester City also approached his camp several months ago only to be informed that the feeling was simply not mutual, with Olise showing little desire to enter that conversation and City consequently deciding to walk away.
“LFC meanwhile are understood to have already completed much of the groundwork behind the scenes and there are figures within leading agencies who increasingly believe England’s grandest institution have quietly manoeuvred themselves into pole position should Michael ultimately decide that the moment has arrived to leave Munich.”
But now, a different development has been reported, with TEAMtalk pouring cold water on Olise heading to Liverpool at the end of this season, or any English team for that matter.
They state that “a move to Spain is currently the only scenario” that would see the France international potentially leave reigning Bundesliga champions Bayern, as he has “little desire to return to the Premier League” after his spell at Crystal Palace.
It means Liverpool have been “firmly put in their place despite recent speculation suggesting a move to Anfield was back on the agenda”, with the transfer now looking highly unlikely.
Michael Olise feels an unrealistic option for Liverpool
In many ways, Olise is the best possible signing Liverpool could make on the right wing to replace the departed Mohamed Salah, perhaps along with Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal.
But sadly, the Bayern ace feels more like a pipe dream than anything, with the Reds almost certainly having to smash their transfer record to sign him, and the player himself not wanting to come back to the Premier League.
If the situation changes, and huge funds are generated to afford him, Liverpool should do everything they can to snap up Olise, who France manager Zinedine Zidane waxed lyrical about earlier this week:
“He’s an absolute natural talent and simply loves playing football. You can see that. He has a feel for the game. I’m delighted to be working with him.”
Olise may be out of the equation for Liverpool, but they must continue to pursue a right-sided attacker ahead of next year, with Andoni Iraola having a host of natural left wingers at his disposal, but few who excel on the opposite flank.
Brighton’s Yankuba Minteh and Palace’s Ismaila Sarr have been mentioned as options, but unfortunately, whoever gets linked with the Reds is unlikely to be on Olise’s world-class level.
