CHICAGO (KWQC) - Mike Ditka, remembered as one of the Chicago Bears’ all-time greats, has died. He was 86.
No cause of death has been announced.
Ditka was head coach of the Bears from 1982 through 1992. He led the 1985 Bears to Chicago’s only Super Bowl championship. That team is considered one of the greatest in NFL history.
Before coaching the Bears, Ditka played tight end for Chicago and was part of the Bears’ 1963 NFL championship team. Ditka was the first tight end to be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He is one of only three people to win a championship with the same organization as both a player and a coach.
