As the Philadelphia 76ers are gearing up for the preseason, guard VJ Edgecombe appeared on his teammate Jaylen Brown's stream, where they tackled the national team topic.

Brown highlighted that Edgecombe played for the Bahamas this past summer and asked what it would mean to represent them in the Olympics.

"Imma be honest, that's more important," Edgecombe said. "This might sound crazy but, I would rather do that than winning the championship in the NBA."

Edgecombe and the Bahamas' chances to make the Olympics

The Sixers guard played in three FIBA 2027 World Cup Qualifiers games for the Bahamas this summer, where he averaged 23.3 points, 6.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 3.0 steals in 30.2 minutes per game.

Edgecombe helped take down Jamaica, but fell to Puerto Rico during the qualifying window in July. Bahamas started the second round of the Qualifiers with a win against Uruguay without Edgecombe, as he helped them take down Panama a few days later.

The Bahamas face a difficult road qualifying to the World Cup as they are 4th in Group F, two wins behind Argentina and Uruguay with the first three teams in the group making the tournament.

If Bahamas made the World Cup, they would have a chance to get a ticket to the Olympics by finishing high in the tournament.

Even if they didn't get a straight path to the Olympics, they would get a spot in the Olympic Qualifying tournament and wouldn't need to play in the Pre-Qualifiers, which would put them closer to Edgecombe's dream of representing his country in the biggest sporting event in the world.
