Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson was left hugely impressed by Chelsea new boy Pep Chavarria in the emphatic 5-1 win over Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge.

The 28-year-old grabbed the assist for the Blues' fourth goal of the afternoon, setting up Joao Pedro with a brilliant ball in from the left.

Speaking on Sky Sports Soccer Saturday, Merson said: "It's 4-1, Joao Pedro. It's a real good football goal played from the halfway line up, back, into Rogers.

"Chavarria goes on the overlap and he plays him in, plays an unbelievable ball across the box. There's Joao Pedro coming in, [who] just has to let it hit his foot and guide it in to the net.

"Brilliant ball by Chavarria, what a signing this kid is. Looks a real player!"

Jordan Henderson of Chelsea celebrates scoring his team’s fifth goal with Joao Pedro during the Premier League 2026/27 match between Chelsea FC and AFC Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge on October 10, 2026 in London, England

Xabi Alonso's side were two goals ahead within three minutes, with Jordan Henderson and Morgan Rogers among the goals.

The quick fire fouble completely deflated a Bournemouth outfit still searching for their first win of the season.

Chelsea's cavalier philosophy of simply outscoring their opponents may not sustainable over the course of a full campaign.

As demonstrated by the three-match winless run prior to the international break, which culminated in a dreadful 3-0 thrashing at Brentford.

True to form, having raced into a 3-0 lead, they momentarily handed Bournemouth a lifeline by conceding a careless goal from a corner.

However, further strikes from Pedro and Henderson rounded off a gloriously entertaining romp in the October sunshine.
