4 Bold Predictions For New York Giants vs Washington Commanders Week 5 Matchup

NFL: Arizona Cardinals at New York Giants

NFL: Arizona Cardinals at New York Giants

The (3-1) New York Giants will look to make it three wins in a row as they travel to the nation’s capital to take on the (1-3) Washington Commanders on Sunday.

The Commanders have swept the season series in each of the last two seasons, but this Giants team is more physical and prepared, thanks to head coach John Harbaugh. After missing the last two games due to a dislocated left elbow, Jayden Daniels returns to make his third start of 2026.

The Giants have never defeated Daniels, and they’ll need to play four solid quarters of football to end their losing streak to him. Here are our bold predictions for Sunday’s contest.

The Giants Defense Will Shut Out The Commanders In The First Half

Over the last two weeks, New York’s defense has shown they can make plays when it matters most as they sealed victories with game-clinching interceptions. First it was safety Jevon Holland, and then last week Deonte Banks had a 98-yard pick-six. In addition, rookie linebacker Arvell Reese has been a tackling machine and leads the NFL with 27 solo tackles.

This is a tough matchup for Daniels to return facing the ninth-ranked defense. Expect New York’s defense to frustrate the dual-threat QB early, and as a result, they will shut out the Commanders in the first half.

Cam Skattebo Will Have a Rushing And Receiving Touchdown

After rushing for 81 yards on 18 carries with a touchdown in the season opener against Dallas, Cam Skattebo’s production has dropped. For whatever reason, he’s been able to break free for long gains.

In the three games that followed, he’s carried the ball 50 times for 154 yards and hasn’t found the end zone. He has also yet to register a receiving touchdown, and has just eight receptions for 67 yards for the year.

This week against the Commanders 18th-ranked defense, the 24-year-old running back will have a bounce-back performance. Not only will he average over four yards per carry, but he’ll have a rushing touchdown and his first touchdown reception of the season.

Jameis Winston Will Throw For Over 300 Yards And Have Zero Turnovers

Jameis Winston’s performance last week against the Arizona Cardinals was an absolute rollercoaster. He completed 18 of 29 passes for 250 yards, with three touchdowns, two interceptions, and was sacked four times.

In the three games that he’s appeared in, there’s been too much erratic play from the veteran quarterback. This is why some feel the team should hand over the reins to J.J. McCarthy sooner rather than later.

Some players perform better when they’re facing criticism, and Winston will show this on Sunday. He will throw for over three hundred yards and will have zero turnovers.

Arvell Reese Will Have 15 Tackles

New York Giants linebacker Arvell Reese (52) celebrates after blocking a pass, Sunday, October 4, 2026, in East Rutherford.

As we mentioned, Arvell Reese has been a tackling machine, and thanks to his nine tackles and an interception last week, he was named Pepsi Rookie of the Week. Through four weeks, the fifth overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft has 34 combined tackles, batted four passes, and has one interception.

Based on his play, he’s one of the early favorites to be named Rookie Defensive Player of the Year. He’ll have another active afternoon chasing down Washington running backs and pass catchers. Reese’s season-high for tackles is 13 in Week 3 against the Tennessee Titans. He’ll surpass that total and set a new career-high in tackles with 15.
