Man Utd hold a strong interest in Como winger Assane Diao, according to reports.

4-4-2.ch claims that the Red Devils currently “lead the race” for the speedy Senegalese international, having already scouted him on three separate occasions this season.

United reportedly sent representatives to watch Diao in action against Genoa, Parma and Frosinone.

The 21-year-old would have impressed observers, especially in the first of those three games. He bagged a brace during the 4-1 win over Genoa at the beginning of last month.

There is fierce competition for Diao

The former Real Betis academy graduate has plenty of teams keeping close tabs on his performances.

It is believed that several Premier League sides, including Liverpool, Aston Villa, Newcastle United, Everton and Brentford, have also taken a look at Diao.

Other Serie A clubs such as Roma and Atalanta would be keen on taking the player off Como’s hands too.

Why do Man Utd want to sign him?

As already mentioned, Diao possesses a lot of pace, and his ability to beat a man one-on-one is one of his key traits.

Another key factor is that the forward is capable of playing off both flanks. In the modern game, it is generally the case that right-footed wingers prefer to play off the left flank, but Como boss Cesc Fabregas has been prepared to deploy him as a more traditional wide player on the right.

His strong attributes, combined with his excellent start to the season, mean that his club won’t let him leave on the cheap.

4-4-2.ch report that Como are likely to demand a fee between €50m (£42m) and €55m (£47m) if United or another team make a formal approach in the New Year.
