There was big news on Friday, as The Friedkin Group put Everton up for a full sale – and now there is word of what the club will try to do in January.
After the summer transfer window, reports emerged that The Friedkin Group were looking for new investment at the club, leading to speculation that this kind of announcement would be coming.
And sure enough, TFG are now looking to fully sell the club, just over two years after they acquired it.
There has been lots of emotion about the development. Some have acknowledged the owners for stabilising the club. But plenty are angry and frustrated that they are already looking to jump ship.
For now, though, it’s business as usual while they look for a buyer – and Everton’s plans for January have been shared.
What is your message to The Friedkin Group as they put the club up for sale? 😳

What Everton are planning to do in January
The Daily Mail have reported that, despite the owners’ intentions being clear, the club are still looking to be active in January.
Everton’s statement basically confirmed this. The club said: “Throughout this process, TFG’s focus will remain unchanged. We will support the Club in all ways necessary to achieve success on the pitch and will continue efforts to make a positive difference in the communities the Club serves.”
The Daily Mail say that Everton will still attempt to sign a new striker, after Thierno Barry was left as the only recognised centre-forward after the January transfer window. Apparently, ‘there is still a desire to sign a striker plus one other player in January’.
There is also mention of the fact that Jarrad Branthwaite is attracting attention. Manchester United are long-term admirers of the centre-back, and it’s not out of the question that they could try to sign him in January.
Why are The Friedkin Group selling Everton?
TFG are apparently confident they can strike a deal with another party to sell the club this season, and reportedly value Everton around £800 million.
This would see them secure a healthy profit, after they bought the club for over £400 million in 2024.
Interestingly, it is noted that TFG are preparing to launch an NHL franchise in Houston, which would cost them about £2.6bn. They apparently realised that they would not be able to meet the expectations for the Everton fanbase.
Supposedly, TFG also feel that they have achieved their goals in the time they have been at Everton, having initially devised a five-year plan.
Lastly, and this will come as little surprise to Everton fans, AS Roma are also seemingly a factor in the decision to put Everton up for a full sale. The Italian club are also owned by TFG, and they are said to hold greater personal attachment to the owners. Apparently they have realised they cannot make the multi-club model work, bearing in mind the demands and stature of both clubs.
It has not been lost on a lot of Evertonians that the Friedkins have never been to a game at Hill Dickinson Stadium. But they have not been shy in showing their faces at Roma games.
