Liverpool star Florian Wirtz is facing a battle to show his quality at the club, following his expensive switch from Bayer Leverkusen last summer, with those difficulties being shown in his transfer value over time

Florian Wirtz's transfer value has seemingly decreased yet again, as the Liverpool ace faces a clear challenge to show he was worth the investment the club made last summer.
The 23-year-old has struggled to be the game-changer that the Reds were expecting when paying out over $150 million to secure his signature from Bayer Leverkusen.
Since moving to Merseyside, Wirtz has managed seven goals and 11 assists across all competitions from 55 appearances, showing occasional signs of quality, but without enough to truly take control of games and make the final pass or shot that will ultimately decide them in his side's favor.
While the first season can be seen as an adjustment period, with the Premier League offering different challenges to the Bundesliga, there is less patience in the second season and in how long it will take for the German international to get up to speed.
Under new boss Andoni Iraola, so far, Wirtz has managed to provide just one assist, leading to calls for the playmaker to either start showing more in games, or for him to be dropped altogether for a different midfield alignment.
It remains to be seen what will happen to him in the coming weeks and months of the campaign, especially after a relatively positive international break with Germany, but his struggles to this point are perhaps best reflected in his transfer value over time.
Transfermarkt has updated its transfer value tracking model, showing the progression of the star's apparent market value, which has seen more and more declines.

Upon joining Liverpool, the model valued Wirtz at roughly €130 million ($145 million), which wasn't far from the actual fee paid to bring the star to the Premier League.
However, that has been on a steady decline since. Just before the January 2026 transfer market, the star's valuation was set at €110 million ($123 million), then reduced slightly to €100 million ($112 million) for the summer.
Another recent update this month has seen Wirtz's value plummet again, hitting €85 million ($95 million), the lowest it has been since the summer of 2023.
It perhaps shows the true reality of where the attacking midfielder is currently at with Liverpool, having to rebuild himself after a difficult period to prove he was worth the money spent on his signature last summer.
While there is still time for Wirtz to turn things around, with both Iraola and Jurgen Klopp backing him to succeed, patience will run out quickly among Liverpool fans unless he can start to show at least some signs of the quality required of him moving forward.
With games against Manchester City, Arsenal, and Chelsea coming up, there may be no better time than this month for the star to show his ability.
