Dejected David Moyes felt his Everton squad completely underperformed in the 2-2 Premier League draw at Hull.
Joe Gelhardt opened the scoring in the 48th minute following an error by Ainsley Maitland-Niles but Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall equalised for Everton seven minutes later.
Thierno Barry, who had squandered plenty of earlier chances, then put the visitors ahead midway through the second period but Hull responded swiftly and substitute Mohamed Belloumi levelled in the 74th minute.
Change is afoot at Everton after it was announced earlier in the week that the club would be put up for sale, but their manager was in no mood for excuses after the draw.
He said: “I’m really disappointed that we didn’t come away with three points, I couldn’t see them getting a goal when we went 2-1 up – I thought if anything we would go on and finish it.
“It looked really unlike us, the way we gave the goals away today, it was very, very poor.
“Hull have had some great results here against Manchester United and Villa, they’re not easy to beat and they weren’t (today) but I thought we should have gone on and won the game comfortably.
“The overall performance from everyone was so far below our level, way below where we should be.
“I’m not giving the players any room for excuses because of what’s going on, whether that be the transfer window or that be ownership.”
Dewsbury-Hall was praised by Moyes for his efforts, however, and despite his blunders Barry was acknowledged for eventually finding the back of the net.
“I thought that (below par performance) showed in so many of our players but Kiernan was the one who got us the goal and obviously made the assist for Thierno.
“We didn’t play well enough today, we might have ended up winning the game with not a great performance but the goals we conceded were naive to say the least.
“You need to be more clinical and we’ve not been, but that’s not a full-on criticism of Thierno Barry because he’s got his goal.”
Sergej Jakirovic reflected more positively on Hull’s performance, conceding that errors had led to goalscoring chances on both sides but taking heart from the resolve of his squad.
“I think it’s a fair result, we used their mistakes to score a goal but unfortunately we gave them two goals,” he said.
“We showed a strong mentality, we played with more risk, we were more happy on the ball.
“We created a chance for Mo Belloumi and Belloumi scored, but I was not happy in the first half with some transitions and counter attacks.
“After we were 2-1 behind we started to play with more courage and create some good action, that shows the character and mentality of this team which is good – Everton are not so easy to break.”
