Thierno Barry was wasteful in front of goal for Everton today.

Everton were held to a 2-2 draw by Hull City, but they really should’ve scored more than two goals and come away with all three points.

Barry is receiving most of the blame for the draw as he missed multiple chances, including one from five yards out with the goal empty.

The Frenchman did score and took his tally to six goals for the season, so he is in good form and improving.

The 23-year-old’s post-match interview shows he has the right attitude, too.

Speaking to Everton’s website after the game, Barry was his own worst critic and admitted he should’ve scored a hat-trick today.

“Today I think I can score three goals,” the Toffees number nine said.

“I need to keep working to come into the next game and try to do my best again. The manager says if we can’t win (then) we don’t lose – but today I think we deserved to win this game. We had a lot of chances, I had a lot of chances to score today. I need to keep working, to be more efficient.”

Barry was clearly feeling responsible for the result, and it’s encouraging that he’s not passing the blame or shying away from it.

The former Villarreal frontman accepts he needs to sharpen areas of his game, and it’s widely documented that he’s one of the hardest workers at Finch Farm, so he’s well-placed to become a success on Merseyside.

Regardless though, it’s important Everton sign another striker during the January transfer window, as he needs competition and also the chance to rest.

Moyes will have to find a solution up front when the fixture list becomes congested this winter. Carlos Alcaraz could play the false nine role.
