Enzo Maresca wants to hear Manchester City fans singing at the end of every game after thrashing Liverpool 3-0 at Anfield. The Blues stepped into a hostile environment after being found guilty of breaking more than 100 Premier League rules but the players shrugged off any suggestion that they would be impacted.
Maresca had referred to the guilty verdicts as 'noise' in his first interview since the news broke, and despite being criticised for that he has continued to use it. After celebrating emphatically with the travelling supporters on Sunday, he spoke of his wish for the club as a whole to stand up and be counted.
"It was not easy for the players after the last two or three weeks but they dealt with the situation very well," he said. "I said during the week we need to learn how to deal with the outside noise because of the situation. The noise will always be there so we need to learn how to deal with that but at the same time we need to try and bring our noise, which is to win games which is what we have done today.
"At the end of the game, our fans were singing so the noise was from us and not the environment. All the away games are going to be with noise so we need to learn how to deal with the noise. And at the same time, we need to make our noise. Our noise is we're singing at the end, our fans, and this has to be our target at the moment."
City may yet be hit by a points deduction this season or expelled from the league if their appeal is unsuccessful and they receive a heavy sanction before the end of the campaign. However, Maresca shrugged off the suggestion that he could not celebrate wins properly until there is an outcome.
"You cannot imagine how happy I am," he added. "I don't care. I'm here to try and prepare games and win games, so hopefully I can speak about this situation when I'm going to win the appeal."
