The New York Giants are kings of the trash heap.

After a bizarre, befuddling finish to Sunday's game against the Washington Commanders, the Giants are 3-1-1. They should thank their lucky stars (and Jayden Daniels) that they're not 3-2.

John Harbaugh and company should see a golden opportunity to take the division title. Dallas and its putrid defense lost to the 0-4 Buccaneers, the Eagles managed to drop a game they led with 8 seconds to play, and the Commanders... let's not waste words on that team.

The Giants are now hosting a former Pro Bowl edge rusher who didn't play last season. It could be one step closer to seizing that golden opportunity.

Giants hosting Pro Bowl DE Yannick Ngakoue for workout

NFL Insider Jordan Schultz is reporting that Yannick Ngakoue will workout for the Giants on Monday.

Ngakoue, 31, sat out all of last season to fully recover from a broken ankle he suffered in 2023. He played in 2024 but was waived by the Ravens and the Patriots.

Schultz reported that Ngakoue felt he wasn't quite up to his standards, recording 1.5 sacks in 11 games.

Ngakoue has 71 sacks in his career but his last double-digit sack season was 2021 with the Raiders. It's fair to assume he's going to be older, slower, and less effective than he was in his prime with the Jaguars.

But this move signals that the Giants, who have some big names along their line like D.J. Reader and Abdul Carter, are looking to improve now not build for the future.

Signing a 31 year old just shows Harbaugh and the New York front office are willing to do anything to get better in a wide open division.

Plus Harbaugh has coached Ngakoue in 2020 and 2024.

Keep in mind Ngakoue hasn't been signed yet and even if he joins the Giants, he'll be used sparingly in pass rush situations.

But vibes are high for football in The Big Apple for the first time in quite a while.
