Chelsea Eye Jarell Quansah Transfer as Liverpool Face Competition

Chelsea Plot Centre-Back Addition

Chelsea are reportedly interested in Bayer Leverkusen defender Jarell Quansah, according to Football Insider. Xabi Alonso already has Maxence Lacroix, Wesley Fofana, Josh Acheampong, Levi Colwill and Jorrel Hato, with Aaron Anselmino on the periphery.

Given Alonso’s preference for a back three, extra depth appears to be a priority.

Liverpool Hold Buyback Clause

Chelsea will not have a clear run. Real Madrid are also interested, while Liverpool hold a £59.5m buyback option that expires in June 2027.

Quansah is open to leaving Leverkusen but is reluctant to return to Anfield after limited minutes there. That could be a major advantage for Chelsea. Arsenal were linked earlier this summer, though the arrival of Ezri Konsa may reduce their interest.

Why Quansah Suits Chelsea

The 23-year-old is 6ft 3in, quick, strong in the air and comfortable playing out from the back. He can also cover at right-back, adding flexibility.

Liverpool’s Defensive Situation

Liverpool have Ronald Araujo (on loan from Barcelona), Jeremy Jacquet, Giovanni Leoni, Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk. Leoni and Gomez have had fitness issues, and Van Dijk’s contract expires next summer.

Chelsea Transfer Outlook

Chelsea’s squad is already well stocked at the back, so a move for Quansah would suggest long-term planning rather than immediate need. His reluctance to return to Merseyside could give them an edge, though Real Madrid’s interest means the race is far from settled.
