Falcons QB Michael Penix Jr. (ribs) says injury isn't long term, will be OK

Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Penix Jr., who missed the final two plays of his team’s loss Sunday night with a ribs injury, said after the game he does not expect it to be a long-term concern.

Head coach Kevin Stefanski said Penix will undergo imaging Monday.

"What I am going through right now I know, it’s not something that is going to be a long-term thing,” Penix said after the game, via the Falcons’ Tori McElhaney. “But today, it took me out for the last couple of minutes of the game, but I'll be alright."

Penix was sacked by Tavius Robinson with 19 seconds remaining in Atlanta’s 30-23 overtime defeat to the Baltimore Ravens. Penix fumbled on the play, subsequently left for the sidelines and was replaced by Tua Tagovailoa.

Penix returned after just one play, threw an incompletion and the game went to overtime after an Atlanta punt. In OT, Penix stayed on the bench, being attended to by Falcons staff but never leaving for the medical tent.

Stefanski said after the game that Penix was trying to get comfortable on the sideline but simply couldn’t get to where he could return.

Penix, who was playing his third game of the season since returning from a torn ACL last season, completed 19 of 32 passes for 240 yards, a touchdown and no interceptions.

Tagovailoa was 2 of 3 for 34 yards and a game-ending interception.
