Liverpool fell to a 3-0 defeat against Manchester City at Anfield despite mounting early pressure on the visitors.
The Reds were without Cody Gakpo, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Alexander Isak, which left the attack looking paper thin ahead of the visit of the FA Cup champions.
Liverpool managed to go toe to toe with them until Ryan Gravenberch received a second yellow on 65, which led to his sending off, opening the floodgates.
Goals from Erling Haaland, Jeremy Doku, and Rayan Cherki earned them the three points, leaving Reds boss Andoni Iraola to rue how things played out.
The Spaniard will be disappointed with several players from Bradley Barcola to Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez. However, one performance especially stuck out.
Iraola threw on Jeremie Frimpong in place of Ronald Araujo for the final 15 minutes, but the Liverpool defender gave a terrible account of himself.
Not only was he all over the place, but he also didn’t provide defensive assurance. He lost his two ground duels and was dribbled past twice.
Since joining the Merseyside outfit in 2025 for €35 million, Frimpong has struggled to make an impact. He is awful defensively and hasn’t produced much in attack.
He won’t be winning his place back from Araujo with this performance, and in fact, if the Liverpool hierarchy are serious, they should already be seeking out a replacement.
Pound for pound, he is one of FSG’s worst signings, and Liverpool cannot afford to ignore the right-back position any longer.
Whether they move in January or wait until next summer, the Reds should be scouring the market for a reliable defender.
Monaco’s Vanderson is one player they should seriously consider. He has the athleticism and attacking instincts required to thrive at the highest level.
The Brazilian could provide genuine competition and give Liverpool a more dependable option on the right flank.
Frimpong has yet to convince, and Liverpool must be ruthless.
