Liverpool “were keen” on signing Real Madrid forward Endrick on a permanent basis during the summer transfer window, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano said that negotiations did not get very far as the Brazilian’s club weren’t interested in letting the player go:

“Then there was also interest from Liverpool. Liverpool were keen on Endrick, but that’s it – they never presented any sort of proposal.”

“Liverpool were thinking of Endrick, even to buy Endrick at some point. But Real Madrid closed the doors to loan and permanent transfer approaches. For Real Madrid, it was not possible to touch the player.”

Liverpool were one of 7 PL clubs who wanted the player

While Romano doesn’t mention every team who made enquiries, he did say that Aston Villa were among the names who made checks along with the Reds.

Other reports have also mentioned Arsenal, Tottenham, Manchester City, Manchester United and Fulham as potential suitors.

Endrick could be on the market in January

The teenager is said to be frustrated about his lack of game time, and there is a possibility that he could be loaned out for six months, in the same vein as his switch to Lyon at the start of this year.

Liverpool and the majority of other interested teams would only consider a deal that includes (at the very least) an option to buy; something that Real are still not willing to countenance.

For that reason, clubs like AC Milan and Roma, who would be happy with a straight loan for the second half of the campaign, are regarded as favourites to secure Endrick’s signature.
