Arsenal vs Lille Prediction: Champions League Preview

Arsenal are considered the overwhelming favourites by the Opta supercomputer when they host Lille in the Champions League on Tuesday. Look ahead to the game at Emirates Stadium with our Arsenal vs Lille prediction and preview.

Arsenal vs Lille: The Key Stats

The Opta supercomputer makes Arsenal overwhelming favourites, giving them a 71.0% chance of victory compared to Lille’s 11.4%.

Arsenal are winless in their last three UEFA Champions League matches against French opposition (D1 L2).

Lille haven’t kept a clean sheet in any of their last 12 away games in the UEFA Champions League.

Arsenal will once again carry the weight of expectation when Mikel Arteta’s side host Lille in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday.

The Gunners came within a penalty shootout of winning Europe’s greatest prize back in May, but ultimately lost out to Paris Saint-Germain.

Their latest attempt to lift the trophy for the first time began with a 1-0 victory away to Napoli last month, captain Martin Ødegaard scoring the winner in the 75th minute.

Arteta’s men come into the game after making a strong start to their campaign in general. They’ve lost just once in all competitions – a 3-0 defeat to Brighton in the Premier League before the international break.

Arsenal responded to that setback on Saturday, coming from behind to beat Leeds United 2-1 at Emirates Stadium. Riccardo Calafiori and Bruno Guimarães scored to overturn James Justin’s opener.

They will be back on home turf on Tuesday, and Arsenal have an excellent defensive record in the Champions League since the start of 2025-26.

Indeed, of all teams to participate in each of the last two editions, Arsenal rank first on a per-game basis for goals conceded (0.44), expected goals against (0.86), and shots on target faced (2.9), as well as having the highest clean sheet percentage (63% – 10/16).

Ødegaard’s winner against Napoli on Matchday 1 came at the end of the longest passing sequence leading to a goal in the opening round of this season’s Champions League (29 passes).

Lille may not be fancied to get a result at the Emirates, but domestically, they have started the season strongly.

Coached by Davide Ancelotti, whose father Carlo holds the record for the most European Cup wins as a coach (5), Lille have won four, drawn one, and lost once from six Ligue 1 matches, sitting just one point adrift of early pacesetters Monaco.

However, they did lose their Champions League opener in an action-packed 3-2 defeat to Real Betis with Troy Parrott scoring the winner just a few minutes before Ethan Mbappé – brother of Kylian – was sent off.

Lille have not kept a clean sheet in any of their past 12 away games in the Champions League (22 goals conceded), since a 2-0 win at BATE Borisov in November 2012.

Olivier Giroud spent five-and-a-half years with Arsenal before departing for Chelsea in January 2018. The 40-year-old could face his former club here, and to date, only two players have both scored for and against the Gunners in the Champions League (Tomás Rosicky and Eduardo da Silva), something the veteran striker will look to replicate here.

Arsenal will be without long-term absentee William Saliba (back), and winger Christos Tzolis (thigh) for this clash.

Mbappé is suspended for Lille but would have missed out anyway with an ankle injury, while former Rangers striker Hamza Igamane (knee) is out for the foreseeable future.

Arsenal vs Lille Head-to-Head

Arsenal have faced 10 different French teams in European competition, but this contest will mark their first-ever meeting against Lille.

The Gunners are winless in their last three Champions League matches against French opposition (D1, L2), although all three games came against Paris Saint-Germain in the knockout stages across the previous two campaigns, both of which ended with Luis Enrique’s side lifting the trophy.

PSG are the only side to beat Arsenal in normal time across their past 26 games in the competition (W19 D5 L2).

Arsenal are, though, unbeaten in their last seven Champions League home games against French sides in the group/league phase (W5 D2), with Auxerre in October 2002 the last to beat them at home (2-1). Arsenal have won all three such matches during the Arteta era, scoring 11 goals and conceding none.

Lille, by contrast, have lost each of their last seven Champions League matches against English teams, last avoiding defeat against Manchester United in November 2005 (a 1-0 win). Six of those seven defeats have come by a single goal.
