New Valencia boss Javier Aguirre has admitted that he was surprised after seeing the data of Liverpool attacker Harvey Elliott and insists after working with the Reds man in training, he simply has to play for Los Che.

The 23-year-old attacker came through Fulham’s youth system before Liverpool signed him in 2019 and he has made 149 appearances for the Reds while making 36 goal contributions.

Elliott has fallen down the pecking order at Liverpool and spent last season on loan with Aston Villa, but failed to appear regularly under Unai Emery and returned to Anfield in the summer.

On summer transfer deadline day, Valencia snapped up Elliott on a season-loan and the Liverpool star hailed the Spanish giants as an incredible club.

It was suggested in Spain that Elliott arrived at the Mestella overweight with the international break tipped to see him get up to speed.

Valencia recently appointed a new boss in the form of Aguirre, replacing Carlos Corberan and Inside Futbol recently looked at how the Liverpool loanee could revive his career under the Mexican tactician.

Aguirre revealed that he has been left baffled as to why Elliott was not playing more after seeing the performance data provided by Valencia’s staff and handed the Liverpool star 31 minutes against Racing Santander on Sunday, where he came off the bench in their 2-2 draw.

The Los Che boss also revealed that he felt after seeing Elliott on the training ground, he feels the Liverpool man, along with Dani Raba and Hugo Duro, needs to play.

“When I arrived, I saw the data for Dani Raba, Harvey Elliott, and Hugo Duro, and that they were not playing”, Aguirre said at press conference.

“I watched them train and thought, ‘these guys have to play.’

“I am very pleased with them.”

It was suggested recently that Elliott has made efforts to adapt to life in Spain and he will now want to settle in fully on the pitch.

Valencia are paying part of Elliott’s salary, with the rest being covered by Liverpool.

There is no option to buy clause included in the loan agreement.
